The Glass-up Cycling for Art and Enterprise is a two-fold project that aims at promoting a clean environment and better livelihoods among artisans that deal with glass up art. Sanyu Centre for Arts and Rights is implementing the project in partnership with Global Youth Mobilization for one year (2026). In the peri-urban slum Kyebando community found in the outskirts of Kampala, unemployment rates are estimated at 80%. Moreover, the area faces poor waste management challenges which undermines the health of the people. Targeting out of school youth, the project addresses poor waste management, gender based violence and unemployment. The youth make glass up art products, jewelry and consumer goods sold to generate income thereby creating employment while reducing the adverse effects of poor waste management.
